Iris Lawson turns 101 and outlives 4 monarchs

IT WAS a reflective week for Iris Lawson: and not just because she turned 101.

Upon the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Iris has now outlived four monarchs – one George, two Edwards and now an Elizabeth.

Born in Werribee 1921, Iris Fonteneau is the daughter of founding RAAF aircraft mechanic George Fonteneau.

Upon his passing, Iris' mother Edith was the breadwinner for her family of six.
